List of Places to Visit in Dubai

In Dubai, where new areas and megastructures are built every day, there are some places that stand as the city’s essentials, simply cannot be missed. Let’s list these significant areas and places to visit in Dubai as follows.

1. Burj Khalifa

At the forefront of the list of places to visit is the iconic Burj Khalifa, standing tall at 828 meters, symbolizing Dubai. It’s challenging to grasp the sheer magnitude of 828 meters at first, but standing before it, feeling like an ant, truly makes you understand. To capture a photo with it requires a skillful maneuver. Located right next to Dubai Mall (the world’s largest shopping mall, mind you), Burj Khalifa, constructed by Emaar, is easily accessible by a 10-minute walk through a tunnel after getting off at Dubai Mall metro station.

2. Marina

Dubai Marina, one of the areas with the most skyscrapers globally, is a stunning sight day and night. Accessible by metro or tram, Dubai Marina is a preferred residential area for expats, offering numerous hotels. Additionally, Marina Mall, situated at the heart of the region, is worth a visit. When you’re here, don’t miss the chance to see Cayan Tower. It’s the world’s largest twisted building, one of the city’s most eye-catching structures.

3. JBR (Jumeirah Beach Residences)

JBR, located within Marina, distinguishes itself with its buildings’ unique sandy hues. Home to residences, restaurants, cafes, bars, and nightclubs, JBR is lively. The Walk, a central avenue here, is like a luxury car runway. Especially on weekends, showcasing some of the world’s most luxurious and unique modified cars. JBR also hosts one of Dubai’s most beautiful public beaches, often preferred for its facilities and easy accessibility via public transportation.

4. Blue Waters

While enjoying the view in JBR, your attention will likely be drawn to the colossal observation wheel – Dubai Eye. The BAE version of London Eye, but of course, larger, even the world’s largest. The youngest member on the list, Dubai Eye, was constructed on an artificial platform over the sea. This small island, entirely man-made in the middle of the sea, was revitalized by adding not only Dubai Eye but also numerous cafes, restaurants, and hotels, transforming it into a vibrant living center. Blue Waters Island, within walking distance from the JBR area, emerged in this way.

5. Burj Al Arab

One of Dubai’s iconic structures, Burj Al Arab, translates to the Arabs’ Tower. Built in 1999, this hotel is designed in the shape of a sail and is situated on an artificial island. A symbol of the city, visible from almost everywhere along the long coastline of Dubai, especially vibrant with colors at night. Burj Al Arab hosts six exceptionally luxurious restaurants, excluding accommodation.

6. Madinat Jumeirah

Meaning “Beautiful City,” this complex, designed in the style of a historic Arab city, is a 5-star hotel. With three boutique hotels, a flowing artificial river, boat tours, and a Souq (marketplace) designed according to traditional Arab architecture, Madinat Jumeirah is not just a hotel complex. It’s a popular meeting point with over 50 restaurants and cafes. It even hosts an annual Christmas Market. Unfortunately, you can’t reach Madinat Jumeirah by metro.

7. The Palm Jumeirah

Palm Jumeirah is one of the most famous man-made islands globally. It hosts residential areas along with numerous hotels, restaurants, cafes, shopping centers, and beach clubs. At the farthest point of the island stands the renowned Atlantis hotel, resembling a castle. Palm Jumeirah offers one of the most beautiful views of Dubai. While the shape of the island might impress when seen on Google Maps, you might not feel that difference when you’re actually on the island, given that every step you take is on an artificially placed surface.

8. The Desert

You absolutely must witness the vast sand dunes and fine sand particles of the desert. Arrange a tourist safari to go to the desert or opt for a day tour with activities like dining and camel riding. If you have friends or have rented a car, my recommendation is to explore the desert on your own. Having a barbecue or a picnic in the desert is a delightful activity. If you have time, let the sun set there and watch the stars in the sky. Away from the city lights, it becomes a visual feast.

9. Old City Deira and Al Seef

15-20 years ago, before any of the structures mentioned above were built, the city center was Deira. The old city of Deira can be considered the most historical area of Dubai, featuring passages similar to our Egyptian Bazaar, such as the Gold Souk and Spice Souk.

In 2017, a new complex called Al Seef was built in this area. Designed in the style of a traditional Arab village, Al Seef houses many restaurants, cafes, and shops. Starbucks here is particularly loved by tourists because it is designed in harmony with the region.
